Adverse weather hits indoor shooting

Posted by Toby Marshall on Wed 6th Jan 2010

According to the latest information from the Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, the Nicolson Institute will be shut on 6th January due to concerns about the weather and freezing conditions under-foot:-

"The majority of schools in the Western Isles should be open tomorrow [6th January].
9 schools will definitely be shut to pupils - Balallan, Breasclete, Bernera, Pairc, Sgoil nan Loch, Sir E. Scott, Uig, Barvas and The Nicolson Institute. More work will be carried out to clear pavements around schools but care will need to be exercised on footpaths and public car parks.
Schools opening are subject to weather conditions and further information will be issued as appropriate.
Comhairle nan Eilean Siar is continuing to take all reasonable steps to keep roads ice-free but grit stocks are low. Priority gritting is taking place and efforts are being made to bring in more supplies of grit."

Unfortunately, since the Nicolson Institute is closed to pupils due to Health & Safety concerns about car parks, pavements, and footpaths, it is more than likely that it will also affect the Club's scheduled shooting night, and therefore, with some reluctance, Island Archers has had to cancel its shooting session on the night of 6th January.

It is hoped that the scheduled club night on 13th January will still go ahead as planned as the wintery conditions gives way to more benign weather, and that the club's competion night, which was due to go ahead on the 6th January, will be rescheduled to take place on the 20th January.
Island Archers would like to apologise for any inconvenience.
